Automobile Accidents in Vegas

By Willie Beamin

News agencies, local residents, and local business owners have reported an increase of careless and reckless drivers. Las Vegas' growing population means there will be even more speeding cars and close calls. A local driving school reported 90-percent of its customers were there because of speeding tickets.

Located approximately 15 miles northeast of the welcome sign is the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, where, on May 23, 2011, Rusty Haight, a live test drive dummy, drove a Ford Crown Victoria into an empty Hyundai Sonata. The "accident" was intentional. Sponsored by the Collision Safety Institute, the accident was not a publicity stunt, but a scientific experiment to gather data from a real car crash with a real person driving the car.

No one can be assured that he or she will not be a victim of another driver who drives recklessly, or who is drunk, or who drives aggressively. Individuals who drive in the state of Nevada can protect themselves from being a victim twice by obtaining automobile insurance. Automobile accidents are costly.

Besides the cost of repairing or replacing the automobile, there can be huge medical expenses in the form of treatment, surgery, long-term therapy, and in-home care. If an entire family is in the automobile at the time of the accident, the cost to the victims of an accident could go many times past the life time earnings of the entire family.

With an increase in drinking, a decrease in sleeping, and unfamiliar traffic patterns, inattentive drivers can alter their future and the future of others in a blink of an eye. Las Vegas also has many distractions for drivers. While the lights of hotels and casinos draw the attention of drivers, particularly at night, other things like eating, putting on makeup, disciplining of children in the backseat, entering text in cell phone, or listening to voice messages from home can easily distract drivers.
