Harley Davidson Is A Synonym For Motorcycle

For citizens of the United States, Harley Davidson never needs more than one explanation, generally delivered to children before they reach kindergarten. The most well-known brand of motorcycles has also the most-recognized and best-selling logo. The brand name is known throughout the world, although America has the bragging rights.

Owning a Harley is such a class act that no justification is needed. Only those who ride other brands of cycle feel the need to explain their choice. There are other fine bikes, of course, but none have the aura of a hog. That is why kids put the logo on their school notebooks, the T-shirts are perennially popular, and H-D rallies attract hundreds of thousands of riders and fans.

Harleys are the stuff of legends and dreams, though a fortunate number of folks have the steel and chrome reality. People name their children and dogs after them, GIs far from home have a H-D classic on their wish list, and people who likely will never solo on a motorcycle are familiar with the name and all it implies. Only those who ride another brand of bike give reasons for their decision; those who ride a hog never have to explain.

The history is romantic. A 21-year-old draws a motor to mount on a bicycle in 1901, a fitting tribute to the new century. By 1903, the first H-D bike is made, designed to race and win. The founders have a motor company in a ten by fifteen foot shed. However, by 1906, they have won their first race, built their first factory, and printed their first catalog. The story continues without interruption, punctuated by countless speed and endurance titles, world-wide renown, and a devoted following that has never fallen away.

An H-D motorcycle offers freedom and the power to go as far and as fast as you dare. The freedom is found by touring the open road, exposed to the elements as well as the glory of the sunlit sky and starlit night. Yeah, you might get caught in the rain, but you get the feel of every inch of the journey in a way no car driver can experience.

Even donning a logo T-shirt can make you feel the possibilities. A dude in such a one is not out to play it safe, and a H-D chick is not out hoping to meet a financial advisor.

But that's another thing about H-Ds. Rebels ride them, but so do businessmen, as well as an increasing number of women. They fit all sorts of lifestyles, as long as dreams have not been forgotten or outgrown. Even an accountant only works forty hours a week. That leaves the rest of the time to get back to the business of really living.
