Is Your Winter Skin Care Optimized? Here are Some Tips. . .

By Ahmed Daye

The methods in which we handle our skin should be dependent on the type of climate we are experiencing at the time.

We do know that our skin may need one particular thing in the summer and quite the opposite in the winter; the same being true with the other seasons. It can be quite disconcerting trying to maintain healthy skin. After reading this article you should be better armed with the information you will need to sustain healthy skin during the coldest seasons.

You want to find a mild soap to use on your body. If it is 100% natural and pure, that is even better. The majority of soap products we use on our bodies when the weather is hot contain deodorants and are anti-bacterial as well. These are useful additives for the summertime but, in the wintertime, they can leech the natural oils and moisturizers out of your skin and make it dry. Obviously part of getting clean is killing bacteria and germs and bathing is supposed to help you smell good, but during the winter months it's better to choose mild soaps to help keep your skin protected. The best soaps are those that have no scent additives. If you must choose a scented soap, find one that has just the lightest amount of scent added and look for natural scents, not chemical-based scents. When you are buying laundry products during the winter, look for those that have the fewest chemical additives and harsh ingredients. There are many 100% pure products you can buy instead. Make sure that you keep your body as moisturized as you keep your skin. This is easy enough to do by making sure to drink enough water every day. The water is for your internal health and, while it does benefit your skin somewhat, it will mainly keep you healthy internally. It also helps you fight off the germs and illnesses that are threatening to do you in during those cold wintry months.

Moisturizer is your best friend during those cold and dry winter months. Cold weather can dry out or even sometimes chap your skin. When the climate starts becoming frigid, the one product that will benefit you the most is an effective moisturizer.

Of course, not all moisturizers are the same. The basic make up of one may be water, while another is oil. The right moisturizer for your skin should be matched with your skin type. If you use an oil based product on oily skin; you would be more apt to experience skin problems. If your skin is just dry, the oil based moisturizers might be more your style.

In the summertime, we're used to having to deal with excess oil and overly moist skin. But you have to make a mind shift when winter weather approaches, because your skin won't be subjected to the same conditions as in the summer. You need entirely different skin care products in the winter months than you used during the summer. Whether it's winter or summer, if you have a skin condition that may not be related to the weather, make an appointment with a dermatologist and get the problem resolved.
