How to Sustain Healthier Skin during the Winter Months

By Jorge Korchnak

Your skin will require a different care routine as one season blends into another season. Don't expect to get the same healthy, clean skin in the winter that you got in the summer if you are still using your summertime skin care regimen. Winter weather is unique and will need heated glove liners . You won't find any comparisons with spring, summer, and autumn weather. Nonetheless, you will be happy to know that it isn't difficult to establish a good skin care regimen for the winter months. Our focus in this report is to present to you with a selection of effective ways to take care of your skin during the winter.

The first thing you need to do is buy a quality humidifier. The ambient air is a lot dryer in the winter, when it's cold, than it is during the warm, humid summer months. Of course, the central heating, or space heaters, we use just makes matters worse. It's pleasant to have the warm air from your heater throughout your home, but it will cause you many problems due to its drying effect on your skin. A humidifier puts moisture back into the air in your home. So, if you use a heating system and a humidifier, one balances out the other and your environment is both warm and humidified. Another option, also, is to put smaller humidifiers in several rooms of your home. Your skin will reap the rewards of being both warm and moist if you install humidifiers in your home.

If you thought you could put your sunscreen away until summer, think again! First off, don't fall into the group of people who think that sunscreen is only for summer. Well, UV rays can still harm your skin, even in the wintertime. They penetrate the clouds in the same way they do during the summertime. Therefore, it's easy to understand why wearing sunscreen in the winter and the summer is important. The sunscreen will also help your skin retain its moisture, helping prevent it becoming dry and flaky if you are out and about during colder weather. The nice thing is that, during the winter, you don't have to worry as much about covering your whole body. You can stick to just your face and your hands.

Listen to remedies offered by your aesthetician and cosmologist. If you simply ask the clerk at your local drug store for help with a good winter time moisturizer, you're basically playing product roulette. Working with a professional (you can find them at makeup counters in your higher end department stores or at local spas and salons) will help you make sure that the money you spend on skin care products will be spent on skin care products that actually work and help your skin stay healthy during the winter months.

Of course, not all moisturizers are the same. Some are oil based, others are water based. The type of moisturizer you need is dependent upon what kind of skin you have. If your skin is on the oily side; you will not wish to use an oil based product, thus staying away from skin issues. Your skin would appreciate an oil based moisturizer if it is on the dry side of the spectrum.

It's important to keep in mind that your skin care routine doesn't change during the different seasons.

You need to maintain clean skin. Clearing up, and avoiding, anything that causes blemishes is imperative. Make sure it stays healthy by having it checked out by a doctor on a regular basis. The weather in the different seasons, however, will make it necessary to adjust your skin care products to factor in the existing conditions. Water based products are great for the warm months, but in the winter months you need something oil based and more heavy duty. Cold, dry weather is the culprit in the winter, so keeping your skin warm and hydrated is the key to beautiful skin all winter long.
