All You Need To Know About Getting Colorado Motorcycle License

By Amanda Baird

Getting a Colorado motorcycle license is the first step towards enjoying the great plains and bike riding terrains in the state. In order to get this type of driving permit, applicants must first have regular driving licenses from the state. If you have any type of two or three-wheeled vehicle, you need to get a suitable permit before you can hit the road. Read on for more information on motorbike driving permits.

The requirements for individuals who are over 21 years old are very simple. Under 18's, however, need to satisfy additional requirements. These conditions vary according to experience. Knowing these requirements will make the entire process easier.

Originally, people who wanted to get a permit to operate motorbikes could get the license separately. Nowadays, however, applicants can only get an endorsement on an existing license. This means that a person needs to get a regular driving permit first before seeking this endorsement. Anyone who is under 18 years old needs to have had an instruction permit for one year before seeking this endorsement.

If you would like to ride any type of motorbike there is, then you need to apply for the M endorsement. On the other hand, you can apply for the 3 endorsement if you only want to drive three wheeled vehicles. It is important that you know the difference between the two types of permits before you visit DMV offices to apply for the endorsement.

Before applying for a motorbike permit, you need to visit the local DMV office and do a written motorcycle test. Thereafter, you need to pay fourteen dollars for an instruction permit. You will then need to pass a motorbike driving test. If you pass these tests, you will be required to purchase a new driving permit that has a motorcycle endorsement. The fees are 23 and 37 dollars for regular and CDL licenses respectively.

The Motorcycle Safety Foundation has a training program for drivers who want to get a motorbike endorsement. Those who complete this course get a certificate. The DMV normally accepts this document as proof of competence in motorbike riding. In order to get a new permit, a certificate holder only needs to present this certificate at the DMV and pay the required fees.

Before the DMV can give an endorsement, it must administer a test to assess the skills of the applicant. The good news is that applicants do not need to visit DMV offices to take these tests. They can be tested by third party testers nearby. If you are looking for a convenient way to get your endorsement, you can just find a third party tester and do the test.

When applying for a Colorado motorcycle license, you need to remember that self-propelled vehicles that do not have clutches, like scooters and mopeds, do not belong to the same classification as clutched two-wheeled vehicles. A person does not even need a motorbike endorsement to ride these clutch-less motorbikes. All they need is a regular Colorado driving license.
