The Biker Vest is a Canvas

By Vicki Firth

What kind of picture enters your head when you think about American Bikers? A lot of people would admit that the image in their head is of a middle aged man covered in tattoos with a biker vest and long hair.

Even though there are plenty of people who would see a biker jacket and chaps on their biker, most people think of the vest as a typical item of clothing worn by serious bikers.

One of the best things about the biker vest is that it is like a blank canvas for all your biker artwork and patches. The problem with sewing a motorcycle club patch onto a T-shirt is that you could not really expect it to last too long.

T-Shirts are too flimsy and easily worn out to make it practical. On the other hand, a full leather jacket provides the same space for your back patch but it's too warm to wear when temperatures get above 60. That makes the biker vest the perfect compromise.

Even without sleeves there's plenty of space on the vest for patches and artwork. Using your vest you can advertise your political affinities or you can use it for military designs or raunchy humor for example. Large patches look fantastic on the back of a biker vest while the front is the perfect place to position smaller patches and artwork.

And regardless of your personal tastes and preferences, there is a large enough selection of patches that you'll be able to find something perfect.

The biker vest is probably not something you will use if you ride a sport bike. But if you're riding a street or touring machine, especially if it's a Harley, you've got no place on the road without a leather biker vest. It's an accepted part of the uniform you're going to need before you're considered a true biker.
