How To Keep Your Motorcycle In Top Shape

By Amanda Weil

Motorcycle ownership is a great luxury as well as a way to cut down on the cost of commuting because it takes less gasoline to operate than a car does. If you've made the investment in a motorcycle, you know that you want to keep it in shape and one great way to do that is to purchase a custom motorcycle cover and be diligent in using it every time you park your bike.

Owning a motorcycle means you need to take care of it and that means covering it with a custom cover when you're not driving it. A custom cover will keep your paint job, seat, motor and other components in working order and keep them looking good and running well for the long term. Getting in the habit of always covering your motorcycle with a custom cover is a good one to get into and taking precautions to use it whether you're parking for the night or parking for a brief shopping trip or even a day at work.

Custom covers can not only protect your bike from the ravages of Mother Nature but can even cut down on routine maintenance and upkeep, especially if you're keeping your engine free of dust and dirt. Purchasing a custom cover that fits your motorcycle like a glove is the best idea. If you buy a cover that is too loose, the dirt and debris will get up under the edges and can also blow off the cover if the wind kicks up.

You can typically find custom covers at retailers that sell motorcycles and finding one specifically for your type is the best way to go. If you can't find one for your particular model, you will want to buy a cover that fits snugly. It's not enough to purchase a cover, you need to purchase one that fits well and you need to use it whenever you park the motorcycle.

In addition to using a custom cover for your motorcycle, regular upkeep and maintenance to not only the engine and other components but will make a difference in how long your bike will keep running. If you're a do it yourselfer you can certainly perform your own motorcycle maintenance by checking the oil, keeping the engine lubricated properly and checking on other routine maintenance items. If you want to avoid mechanical failures, especially if you're on the open road, you want to perform routine maintenance and have your motorcycle checked regularly by a mechanic that you trust.
