Information about Motorcycle Tail Lights

By Chloe Gib

One reason for a faulty backlight is a burned-out bulb which is unsafe. The motorcycle tail lights are a safety feature for the vehicle you drive and for the others at night. The light at the tail helps other drivers establish who or what vehicles are in front of them. It also determines the time-frame for the braking distance required for the driver behind to stop.

In this case, it might be time to replace your stock bulbs to motorcycle led lights. LED bulbs are smaller you have to purchase a LED cluster, a group of lights fitted into one housing. These are light emitting diodes which are smaller than an ordinary bulb thus an array is needed to give that superior brilliance. Check with your supplier to make sure the unit you buy fits the make and model of your motorbike.

There are applications also for motorcycle turn signals but you have to install a load equalizer for it to function properly. It can be mounted under the seat securely fastened with tie down straps. Check the flashing sequence if they are winking faster than normal. All you have to do is just adjust the load equalizer.

Determine what you intend to use the LED light bulbs for. Accent lighting comes in LED-bars in long plastic strips in different lengths. The customizing of the units is somewhat pricey so you have to be exact on what function you want it to do. You can maintain the stock housing by buying the bulb that would fit the socket.

Electrical consumption is less than the original bulbs. A measurement done in the tail light unit for the original OEM bulb is 600 milliamps for the taillight with additional 2.7 amperes when brakes are applied. LED uses only 185 milliamps and 1.78 amps respectively. This is because the bulb is a diode and not a bulb.

If your unit is a vintage type, antique or a collector's item, it will be important to keep the look as close as possible to the original. Older models' lighting offer very poor performance and this kind of light provides a better alternative while maintaining that exact look.

Now is the time to upgrade your motorcycle tail lights for that added margin of safety. Your dealer will be helpful and would be able to answer your questions. Be specific on what you want and the merchant will find the product for you.
