Women's Motorcycle Apparel Could Be A Trend Statement If You Want It To Be

By Doug Taylor

Most major riding gear producers produce a series of women's motorcycle gear bearing in mind the distinct build and needs of woman riders. Women's riding helmets are sized in a different way than men's, women's gloves feature diverse proportions, and protective pants are sized for women's bodies that includes appropriately-placed protectors.

Women's jackets are produced to protect the rider from wind, weather, or even the ground in the worst case scenario. A jacket not designed specifically for riding will never provide the necessary protection a rider needs. Most women's jackets are designed not just to guard but to match a woman's body properly. Numerous feature flexible straps, numerous snaps, or velcro to get the best fit. Jackets are widely available in leather, mesh, as well as textile and almost all have CE-rated shielding inserts at key points (spine, shoulder, and elbow).

Riding trousers, boots, and gloves are extra parts of ladies motorcycle apparel that can help keep the rider secure. Pants are available in leather, textile, as well as kevlar-reinforced denim and many provide CE-rated protective inserts in the knees as well as thighs. Gloves give the rider's hands protection against the weather conditions, temperature, vibration from riding a motorcycle at high speed, and scratching in the worst case scenario. Boots, specifically above-the-ankle boots, provide excellent protection for the feet and ankles of the rider should the motorbike go down on her legs.

Helmets are perhaps the most significant piece of riding gear that you can purchase. Be sure your helmet fits snuggly and comfortably and enables you to turn your head as much as possible in both directions. Helmets can be open-faced, three-quarters, and full-face and each provides different types of protection together with comfort for the rider. Most companies provide a line of helmets just for women and these are frequently manufactured in a greater variety of colors and patterns.

Women's motorcycle apparel can also include shirts, pants, shorts, bandannas, sunglasses, boots and much more. Many motorcycle brands produce their own line of clothing and accessories and many market to women in particular. Motorcycle culture features lots of fun branded clothing for women in addition to their riding gear. Some of this apparel is rated to be protective gear as well as some is not; be sure to match your apparel to your riding needs.
