Explaining The Format And Rules Of Hare Scrambles Virginia

By Kathie Sweet

Hare scrambles Virginia are racing events on motorcycles that are held on demarcated courses on rough natural terrain. Events either run for a certain number of laps or a pre-set period of time which is usually 2 hours. To compete in this sport, you need to be a capable, fast rider, and physically fit to keep up with the demanding pace.

Because they are take place over closed courses, operator licenses are not necessary and the motorcycles do not require registration for street use. Riders usually begin by participating in local events and progressing to national level. The ultimate aim is to compete in the National Hare Scrambles Series, a multi-series event that is contested by the best in the country.

Scramble tracks vary in lengths of between 2.5 and 40 miles. You can expect a mixture of jeep trails, sections of motocross track, tight single track trails, two tracks, and grass tracks. The discontinued Blackwater 100, the Moose Run, and the Grand National Cross Country series are the most famous USA races.

Before the race begins, competitors are permitted to examine the track on a bicycle or on foot. The promoter will decide if the race is to be determined on time or by laps. This must be advertised in any promotional material prior to the event. Another decision taken by the promoter is whether the race start is to be live or dead.

Each class must have a separate start. The only time an exception can be made is if specific classes have less than five entrants. They are allowed to start at the same time, however scoring is separate. Only if the starting area is large enough can a mass start be done. Some courses enable riders to take illegal short-cuts so it is often necessary to have observation points to monitor this.

Unless the referee instructs otherwise, all riders have to stop at the scoring station. Scoring lanes are to be set up with banners, barrels, or flags. To enable riders to identify the correct scoring lane, there should also be color-coded signs. To be eligible for points and awards, a rider must have completed at least half the number of laps as the winner in his or her class. When the checkered flag is waved, competitors are allowed a certain amount of time to finish the final lap.

There are 10 classes in hare scrambles Virginia. These range in motorcycle cc strengths, starting from 86 up to 251 plus. A sanctioned event also has individual classes for women, veterans (30 years plus), seniors (40 years plus), and super seniors (50 years plus). The minimum age in a sanctioned race is 16 years.
