UTV's are taking over Motorsports

By Frank Norris

UTV's are taking over the motorsports industry and provide a more stable and familiar experience to the average rider. Riding a UTV is much like driving a car (on steroids) with an automatic transmission. The objective of this article is to help familiarize people with how to ride an off road utility vehicle.

Safety is key when riding any motorsports vehicle, so lets talk about the safety features of a UTV. Seat belts should be worn at all times and are should be standard equipment on any UTV you buy regardless of brand. A roll cage will provide protection in case of a rollover as well as half doors.

Just want to ride and not have to worry about changing gears or stalling their machine. Most UTV for sale offer just that in the form of an automatic transmission, and in my opinion is one of the best selling points for a new or novice rider.

These Utility vehicles make a perfect work tool around the farm. A UTV often features a lift assist dump bed with a large payload capacity. Look for a stamped steel bed instead of plastic if you plan on using it a lot. Just because it is a work machine doesn't mean it has to be uncomfortable. Ride comfortably in buckets seats, drink holders, 12v outlet, head rests, and plenty of leg room.

There is an entire galaxy of options and add on equipment being made for this market. Gun racks, wheels, tops, windshields, soft tops, tool boxes, winches, and snow plows top the wishlist. If you can not have them all, then choose the windshield and top to provide more protection from the elements and increase the possible riding time.

UTV manufacturers are popping up everywhere! Here is a list of reputable manufacturers of these machines to choose from. Yamaha, Polaris, Kawasaki, Artic Cat, Hisun, Benneche, CanAm, RedLine, Ruesh, Honda, Husqvarna, Kymco USA, Kubota, Bobcat, Cub Cadet, Bushhog, John Deere, Kazuma, Dirmo, Pug, Tomcat, Qlink, and BamX.
