Motorcycle Accessories Can Be Functional

By Walter Palamino

Motorcycle accessories can be functional or they can be completely cosmetic. The wonderful thing about bikes is that even stripped down to the chassis and wires they are fully functional and usually still street legal. But why would anyone want to be so minimal when there are some truly useful gadgets out there?

Some of the most popular additional equipment includes mounting hardware for GPS and other navigation devices. Some bolt to the steering column, others are essentially strapped tightly to a handlebar or mirror stalk. It is important to find one that fits the bike properly, and high quality hardware will be able to deal with the expected vibrations.

Motorbikes are notoriously bad cargo vehicles. The addition of some pannier bags can increase the load capacity tremendously. Again, it is absolutely vital that they are fitted properly and attached securely. There is almost no room for error when it comes to bike safety.

When it comes to cosmetic flourishes and other personal touches, the sky is the limit. Decals, lighting, and after market exhaust systems have proven popular. Some people even go so far as to match their helmet graphics to the paint on their ride. Whatever people want to do to personalize their vehicle, there is most likely a way to do it.

Sometimes additional parts bestow functional as well as cosmetic bonuses to the vehicle. Third party tires and after market headlamps are examples of this. Some riders select from these components based on brand, others based on cost.

From locking mechanisms for helmets to sidecars able to transport considerable loads, there are so many kinds of motorcycle accessories available. Assuming that the parts are designed for use on the specific bike model, and that they have been installed properly, it is unlikely that riders will have much trouble with their paraphernalia.
