Motorcycle Luggage Of Five Different Kinds

By Harry Alan

While this surely won't come like a surprise to you, there are many different types of motorcycle luggage. You might have seen several different varieties presented at your local bike shop, but probably not all. Many are specialized and meant to be only used by niche riders. What exactly are a few of the different forms of motorcycle bags and luggage? Please read on.

Panniers: Panniers are the classic form of motorcycle luggage. Also referred to as hard saddlebags, panniers are permanent addendum for your bike. They're usually metallic and are made to be as durable because it's possible to make them. They have to be, because if the bike is dropped, they're going to have the full weight in the contraption on them.

Panniers are employed often by adventure travelers for their hard shells ensure it is hard for thief's to sneak into their contents while their hard shells keep fragile things from getting smashed in case the bike falls (that may be a common occurrence on certain roads and trails).

Saddlebags: Much like panniers, except usually soft. Saddlebags are bags that hang from your side of your bike. They add easy and simple, cheap storage to get a bike, though they not have the durability of panniers. Saddlebags do feature one major advantage over panniers, however: they are removable. You are able to drag them around when your luggage, if you want to.

Tank Bags: Tank bags are less frequent than saddlebags, but are not less ideal for many people. In their most basic form tank bags work as a convenient spot to store small items like wallets, cards and snacks. Their utility often goes further than that, however. Tank bags usually will include a specialized slot for several things. Tank bags with map holders can be a common variant, since you can glance down at the tank to see your location going. Since maps are already largely supplanted by GPS, other variants host a slot on your GPS system.

Handlebar Bags: Motorcyclist crams storage wherever they are able to and the handlebars are not any exception. Like tank bags, handlebar bags really are a small type of motorcycle luggage bags. They usually consist of some mix of small bags hanging from the handlebars and a bag hanging out over the top.
