What Makes a Good Motorcycle Helmet?

By James Martinez

What should you look at when buying a motorcycle helmet like the Shoei RF 1100? There are a few main factors that are very important. Let's take a look at these below and find some basic guidelines that you can use before making your purchase.

1. Safety

Of course safety is the #1 most crucial part and the main purpose that the helmet provides. The reason why you wear the helmet in the first place is because you want to stay safe in case of an accident or something. The single most important thing that you can do before purchasing a motorcycle helmet is checking the safety rating to see if it lives up to the expectations of other bikers.

2. Bike Comfort

If you don't feel comfortable inside of your motorcycle protective gear, you won't be wearing it for very long. It should get to the point where you don't even feel it on your head, and you can wear it all day practically. So this is something to aim for directly after safety. Comfort is extremely important - make sure that you find a bike helmet that will give you the kind of comfort you're looking for.

3. Good Ventilation

Those in colder areas won't really have to deal with this too much, but if you've ever been riding and find yourself hot then you will definitely learn quickly that you want a helmet which can keep your face cool. Sweating inside of a very hot helmet is never a fun thing. Instead of dealing with that, try and find a helmet like the Shoei RF 1100 which will give you a good amount of air to keep your body temperature down.

Summary

The Shoei RF 1100 is a great helmet that has all 3 of the qualities that I personally care about, so you can start there and see if it's one that can fit your needs. However, whether you go with that one or not, please make sure that the helmet you get has some of the highest safety ratings and also is easy for you to wear. If you don't, you'll end up not wearing the helmet too much and can put yourself at risk.
